About Me

I learned to knit in first grade, when I was attending The Waldorf School in Garden City.  I remember my brother was learning 5-needle (as I called it then) knitting in fifth grade, and was making a hat.  I wanted to be able to do that.  But I stopped knitting before I got to that point.  And didn’t pick up needles again until I was 25.  My goal at that time was to knit a sweater.  I remember having a sweater from Gap that I loved, and I’d worn it so much that the elbows had worn through.  I wanted to make one just like it.  I never finished it.  The yarn was a very good quality wool that I purchased at Woolcott & Co in Cambridge, MA, but I had not stored it well, and it basically fell apart.

In the meantime, I began crocheting again – a skill I learned at Waldorf in second grade! I crocheted a beautiful afghan which I gifted to my then-soon-to-be-in-laws.  I should get a picture of that afghan.  It is beautiful, warm, and well taken care of.

Since then, I’ve been knitting as much as possible.  I found Ravelry, and most of my projects are listed there.  Many of them are works in progress (WIPs) but I’m working on getting them done.  Knitting is an amazing outlet for creativity, stress relief and fashionista-ing.  Not to mention, it is a natural extension of my Harry Potter fangirlism.  There is so much knitting (mostly present in the movies) that there have been books (Charmed Knits by Alison Hansel) written about it.

My knitting life continues, and I aspire to be a Master Knitter, a Certified Expert Knitter.

Other things I enjoy include writing and cooking.  Maybe I’ll share those loves with you at some point, but for now, let’s spin some yarns and learn about knitting and patterns and projects and more!
